What is IPL SHR?

SHR stands for Super Hair Removal, a technology for permanent hair removal which is having a sweeping success. The system combines laser technology and the benefits of the pulsating light method achieving practically painless results. Even hairs which until now have been difficult or even impossible to be removed, can now be treated. “In Motion” represents a breakthrough in permanent hair removal with light technology. The treatment is more pleasant than with the conventional systems and your skin is better protected.

 Traditional laser or IPL technologies employ short impulses of approximately 2-300 milliseconds, applying a vast amount of energy (12-120 J/cm2). Energy is transported to the hair root through melanin, where warmth of 65-72° Celsius is produced. Energy reaches the root of the hair follicle solely through melanin. Skin and red blood cells have a similar absorption coefficient as melanin and therefore also absorb the high levels of energy produced by the laser and IPL methods. 

SHR technology, on the other hand, utilizes the melanin path only partially (50%)., and combining In-Motion technology, gently warms the skin helping penetrate down to the follicles which produce hair growth. 

Research has shown that a slower, but longer heating process is considerably more effective for permanent hair removal than high and short levels of energy. Therefore, when using SHR, the device is passed over the tissue multiple times (in motion) using low energy but a high rate of repetition (up to 10Hz, i.e. 10 times per second) instead of using the traditional method with single, high-energy impulses. Thus, the hair melanin, as well as the tissue of the stem cells, is heated with low energy at a slow pace and over a longer period of time to a comfortable temperature of 45° Celsius

1. What is the first step before treatment?
The first step before any treatment is a consultation, at the consultation we gather medical & other relevant information to ensure you not only receive a safe treatment, but also have all the information needed. Consultation time is 30 minutes and in some cases a treatment can be conducted after your consultation.

2. Is SHR suitable for all skin types?
SHR is suitable for all skin types, even tanners, this is achievable because of the technology and techniques utilized. Unlike traditional Laser and IPL, SHR can be had all year round without having to hide from the sun.

3. Will SHR work on blonde, red or fine hair?
Like all hair removal, hairs that are dark work the best, however with SHR there is generally a better result of up to 50% on blonde, red and fine hairs and in some cases more. As we are all unique results will vary from person to person.

4. How many treatments are needed?
To fully treat the area you may require 3-6 treatments at four week intervals. A four week regime is important to maintain so that the SHR treatments get the hair at its four week re-growth. Near the end of the treatments 6-8 week intervals will be needed to finish off your course.

5. Is there any pain?
It is absolutely pain free, this is achieved by SHR technology and In-Motion techniques, to give you a pain free treatment, including in the most sensitive areas.

6. Is this permanent?
SHR is the closest treatment to absolute permanent hair removal. Unfortunately your body can produce hormones that can simulate further hair growth with some people. After your course of treatments you will have at least 80%-90% of hair gone, with only touch up treatments needed 1-2 times a year.

7. Am I a suitable candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
With the new SHR, almost everyone can enjoy the benefits of laser hair removal, however, the overall effectiveness of laser hair removal is dependent on a combination of your hair and skin colour. Since the beam of light is attracted to the pigment in your hair and your skin, the laser beam will not be able to treat grey or white hair, as there is not sufficient pigment in these hair folical. You should discontinue all tanning activities for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment to avoid any skin pigmentation that may take months to fade.

8. Are all areas treatable?
Any area of the body where you have unwanted hair may be treated. For your convenience we have packaged together our most popular areas together to make them even more affordable.

9. Why do I need multiple treatments?
Each of your hair follicles individually goes through different growth phases at different times. Since the laser’s beam is attracted to the pigment in your hair, laser hair removal only works when your hair is in the “active” growth phase. Any follicle that does not contain hair (whether it’s from waxing, plucking, or simply because the hair is currently in a different growth phase) will not be destroyed. To make sure that full results are achieved, several treatments are required in order to give your hair follicles time to cycle through all the growth phases
